Urban Landscape

I am not particularly inspired by architecture, so I decided to use a different aspect of my urban landscape for my inspiration.

I have always noticed that Manchester, and this may be true for other urban landscapes, transforms at night into a brightly lit and colourful environment. This is interesting as by day the city can look quite dull and bleak, with many greys and browns colouring the buildings and streets. I decided to reference this particular time of day (or rather night) as my starting point for my visual research.

On this particular evening, I had been unfortunate enough to be caught in one of the infamous Manchester rain spells. I really like the way that the surface of the roads/floors transform at night after being lashed with rain, adding colour and vibrancy to the mundane cobbles or tarmac. The colours are very exciting and although I usually work with a duller colour palette I am excited to embrace the new challenge of working with a more vibrant colour palette.
